Many artists have been involved in designing playing cards. The Museum zu Allerheiligen holds a significant number of such cards in its playing card collection, designed by in some cases famous artists such as Félix Vallotton (1865–1925), Ditha Moser (1883–1969), Jean Dubuffet (1901–1985), Salvador Dali (1904–1989), and Niki de Saint Phalle (1930–2002). The Art of Playing Cards now presents for the first time a selection of these works, created at the intersection of everyday culture and art. In addition to various production techniques, different types of card games are also explored, including tarot, tarock, skat, quartet, and jass. The exhibition and accompanying program with expert lectures, workshops, and interactive tours are aimed at a broad audience, including both art enthusiasts and playing card lovers. They open up the museum’s valuable playing card collection to the public eye.
