Memberships

The Schaffhausen Museum Association was founded in 1926 in anticipation of the opening of the Museum zu Allerheiligen. The association supports the Museum zu Allerheiligen as a multidisciplinary museum and meeting place.

The association organizes lectures and excursions, supports cultural-historical publications, and offers its members free admission to all exhibitions at the Museum zu Allerheiligen as well as the opportunity to meet people with similar interests.

In addition, the association supports museums in the region and works in partnership with the four museum-related professional associations (Art Association, Historical Association, Natural Science Society, Pro Iuliomago) as well as various foundations, and is a member of the Schaffhausen Lecture Association and the Gipsmuseum Schleitheim Foundation.

Founded in 1847, the Schaffhausen Art Association currently has around 1100 members. Its main goal is to engage with contemporary art through exhibitions and acquisitions. The association maintains an extensive collection of works by artists from the region and throughout Switzerland.

The association provides its collection to the Museum zu Allerheiligen as a permanent loan and supports exhibitions at the museum. The focus is on current Swiss art, including artworks from the region.

In addition, the association organizes exhibitions of regional artists. With its diverse program of events, the association enables its members and other interested parties to engage with art and artists. With events for high school graduates and trainees from corporate members, the association also aims to interest the next generation in art.

The association offers its members free admission to the Museum zu Allerheiligen Schaffhausen as well as to other museums and exhibition venues in Switzerland.

Since its founding in 1856, the Historical Association of the Canton of Schaffhausen has been committed to research on Schaffhausen’s history. Today it is one of the largest cultural associations in the canton and one of the largest historical associations in Switzerland in terms of membership.

Promoting historical research and conveying history to a broad audience are its central concerns. Lectures on various aspects of the history of the region and beyond are an integral part of the program of activities. The association also considers it its task to raise awareness of the historical roots of pressing contemporary problems.

When the Museum zu Allerheiligen opened in 1938, it was the collection of the Historical Association that formed the basis for the museum’s historical department.

The Schaffhausen Nature Research Society has been committed to the dissemination and promotion of scientific understanding for almost 200 years. Today it has over 700 members.

Topics from natural science and technology increasingly permeate our everyday lives. Publicly led discussions on genetic engineering, nuclear energy, climate change, and biodiversity require an ever-deeper understanding of scientific relationships.

The society promotes interest in nature in general and the natural sciences in particular with its activities, which span four areas: communication, preservation, encounters, and research. The annual program includes lectures and visits in the winter and excursions in the summer. These are aimed at both specialists and a broad audience interested in the natural sciences.

Pro Iuliomago, the society for archaeology in the canton of Schaffhausen, was founded in 1975 in connection with the emergency excavations in Schleitheim, during which the thermal baths of the Roman Vicus Iuliomagus were revealed.

In 1993 the society’s activities also expanded to general archaeological research in the canton of Schaffhausen. It is committed to the preservation and communication of archaeological cultural assets in the canton of Schaffhausen.

Pro Iuliomago strives to raise public awareness of archaeological issues and the importance of archaeological heritage in our cultural landscape. To this end, the society regularly offers guided tours, archaeological evening walks, and lectures.
