The Museum zu Allerheiligen is participating in the activities surrounding the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017 with a tour of the Cultural-Historical Collection in several stations.

The exhibition takes the point of view of Hans Stockar (1490–1556), a contemporary of the Reformation in Schaffhausen who witnessed this turbulent time as a merchant, politician, and pilgrim and recorded his perspective in a diary. Following Stockar’s writings, visitors will learn how the Reformation changed everyday life for the people of Schaffhausen and what the famous “Onyx of Schaffhausen” has to do with the Reformation. Sebastian Hofmeister, Schaffhausen’s first Reformer, is also a special focus. In 1525, having fallen out of favor with the town council , he was not allowed to return to his home city for the rest of his life, even after the introduction of the Reformation in 1529.

In the exhibition, objects from the museum’s collection will be supplemented with selected loans, including the oldest copy of Hans Stockar’s diary from 1566.

All exhibition texts in German. Public tours in German will be offered every last Sunday of the month at 11:30 a.m. A lecture series will offer additional insights into this important time of upheaval between the Middle Ages and the modern era.
